The study entitled ‘Process and outcome indicators for the management of patients diagnosed with glioma (2016-2019)’ has several objectives. Firstly, this study aims to develop a set of quality indicators in the domain of neuro-oncology, more precisely process indicators for the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients with glioma, as well as outcome indicators focussing on post-operative mortality and survival. Secondly, this study aims to describe the patterns of care and the outcomes of care for these patients in Belgium. Finally, a volume-outcome relationship is assessed: do patients treated in high-volume hospitals have on average a better survival than patients treated in low-volume hospitals?
This public report provides a detailed overview of the methodology used to calculate process and outcome indicators for the management of patients diagnosed with glioma, as well as the results for these indicators at national level. The results at hospital level are anonymously reported. Through hospital-specific feedback reports, hospitals did get to see their own results. Interpretation of the main results and discussion of the major topics of this study were among others disseminated via scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals and the PhD dissertation of dr. Vanhauwaert.
